Oh we just love communicating through vlogs, webcams and YouTube! So it’s only natural that we’re seeing a mega influx of Extreme Film/Music Video Make Overs (a.k.a. re-edits of already used footage with the purpose of turning things around into something completely different).How does it work? You take a look at silly-tastic home-made videos posted online until you spot a recurring theme that captures your imagination – for instance, “people dancing in their basement” (as seen in the mashup vid for Dancing to The End of Poverty). If you’re feeling rebellious, you can also chat a bit and choreograph the material in advance using Masashi Kawamura, Hal Kirkland and Who-Fu’s method for Hibi No Neiro. But be sure to maintain an air of  authentic real-life strangers interacting on the interwebz!

This Belgian-made collage which premiered at IDFA takes it one step further, showing how teenagers nowadays translate love-relations, friendships and disappointments into 0 and 1 bit language.
