As the US election race hots up for the ultimate show-down between His Holiness and The Lizard King - and we the world get distracted by frivolities like the authenticity of Joe the Plumber – SubmarineChannel presents (in our humble opinion) the very best in pro-Obama artistry. 1. Obey Giant, Vote for Hope
What started out as an iconic poster for subversive Obama street propaganda, was eventually bought up by the official Obama campaign team, earning over half a million dollars in the process – all of which were donated to the cause.
2. Sarah Silverman, The Great Schlep
Flanked by the Obey Giant poster on her left, and a series of amusing props on her right, the glorious political incorrectness that is Miss Silverman urges Jewish kids to change their grandparents´ voting tendencies and do the impossible: make Florida Democratic.
3. Lee Hirsch, Local Voices
Filmed in small, marginal communities in politically undecided states like Missouri, Nevada, and Ohio, these short films feature local voters – nay real Joe the Plumbers – as they tell us why Obama is their man this time around, and are then aired on small-time, local TV networks.
4. Will.I.Am, Yes We Can
In collab with a smattering of fellow A-listers including Common, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Herbie Hancock, the Black Eyed Peas frontman threw together this viral based on the hair-raising words of a Luther King-esque Obama speech. An instant online mega-hit, the clip received more than a million views on YouTube and 10 million on the host site within its first weekend of posting.
5. Dear Oprah, Non–Voting America´s Wildest Dream
No Obamania Top 5 would be complete without this gem of a documentary produced by Yours Truly, which follows a small team of Dutch filmmakers as they listen to some of America´s huge, disillusioned, non-voting population, and find out what made them stop ticking.
