How cute are they, those 3 sons of product designer Lucas Maassen. Maassen offered his kids a contract to work for him: 1 euro per hour.

With his ironic, almost anarchistic view on design Maasen is considered the enfant terrible of Dutch design. He started his career by making non-functional chairs, like the nano chair, that is so small that it can only be seen through a an electron microscope, or his sitting chairs that sit but cannot be sat on. Basically, Maassens work can be seen as a critique on the role of the designer in a world of abundance.

The portrait of Lucas Maassen was made for the series Dutch Profiles, that Submarine produced for DutchDFA.
