In 2011, 3D is still the new black, and coming soon to your iPhone, thanks to Japanese media artist Jitsuro Mase. Mase invented a neat little add-on called i3DG that transforms your iPhone into a handheld 3D entertainment device. The charming accessory is remarkably lo-fi and snuggles nicely onto your iPhone‘s screen, where its three small, semi-translucent mirrors reflect your iPhone’s screen as a layered 3D image. It’s an old-school optical trick, so no need for silly 3D glasses! The i3DG is now in production, but during the Film Festival Rotterdam you can evaluate its potential at an exhibit at V2 called Palm Top Theater, featuring works made especially for the i3DG. Opens Fri, Jan 21.
