Icons of Dutch Design, fashion and architecture

Dutch Profiles is a series of short documentaries produced by Submarine commissioned by DutchDFA about architects, graphic, product and fashion designers in the Netherlands. Dutch Profiles focuses on the conceptual, context-oriented and research-based practice of Dutch designers and includes interviews with, among others: MVRDV, 2012 Architects, Jurgen Bey, Claudy Jongstra, Gerard Unger, Paul Mijksenaar, Marlies Dekkers, Alexander van Slobbe and G-Star.

American Prince

Documentary on cult hero Steven Prince

In 1978, director Martin Scorsese turned the camera on his friend and roommate, Steven Prince, whose life was more fascinating than what any screenwriter could dream up. The compelling documentary that emerged, 'American Boy' was to become Scorsese’s “lost” film. Having never been properly released, it gained cult status among cinefiles over the years through bootleg copies and influenced a whole generation of filmmakers. Quentin Tarantino took one of Prince's stories about injecting adrenaline into the heart of a woman who overdosed and turned it into one of the most memorable scenes in film history.

Molotov Alva and His Search for the Creator

A documentary shot entirely in Second Life

Episode 1 of this very first MiniMovie was released online in March 2007 under the title My Second Life and became a smash hit on YouTube virtually overnight, catching the attention of a number of US TV networks. It was shown in the US on HBO and in The Netherlands on VPRO. "Molotov's Alva", in short, is a compilation of ten video diaries made by Molotov Alva, who disappeared off the face of the earth in January of 2007, only to re-appear subsequently in Second Life. The diaries form the basis of this documentary directed by Douglas Gayeton.

Dutch artist Jan Rothuizen traversed the streets of Cairo, an urban conglomeration of 17 million people, which, after 5000 years of continuous habitation remains the greatest metropolis of Africa and the Middle East.

In the end, when she cheats on her husband with a man she met online, her life seems to crumble around her. She regrets her deceit, admits to her Internet addiction, and dreams of a new life in Alaska.
