The International Rotterdam Film Festival, which opens today, jumps on the crowdfunding bandwagon this year with their Cinema Reloaded project. On the dedicated website you can invest 'coins' (€5) in three selected film projects and be a “co-producer.” But you don't get boss a film crew around, so there's no reason to light up that Cuban cigar just yet. In fact, you don't get to have any creative say in the matter at all, because you're really just a donor. “Co-producer” just sounds infinitely more sexy. Buying five coins does get your name on the end credits though. But, hey, this is not about you, it's about Film. And the the three directors whose projects you can support are Argentinian rising star Alexis dos Santos, Malaysian multitalent Yuhang Ho, and long time darling of the video art world Pipilotti Rist.
